Do you ever have doubts about your faith?

I think anyone who is a Christian, at one point or another, has wondered about the truth of what we are taught. I have wondered many times myself. I will listen to a pastor, or remember things that have been taught to me by many people in my life, and I will sit there and try to figure some things out, often feeling overwhelmed by it.

Doubt is a result of not intimately knowing that which you say you believe in. God himself taught us to question what we are taught against His Word. If we are to take men at their word, Satan will surely use that against us, because humans are fallible – we will make mistakes and we will most surely interpret God’s Word incorrectly at some point.

Even if we are misled or doubtful, we have access to not only the One who created us, but we have the Bible to physically hold in our hand as a guidance. Read it, study it – get to know your Father in Heaven – know Who you say you follow and follow with eyes wide open! Experience everything He has for you! Continue to be taught by those who God has called to teach, and continue to be led by those who He has called to lead, but in the end remember that you will be held accountable only for you.

I truly believe in a faithful God – His desire from the beginning of time has been to dwell with us. He will not forsake those He desires! I was discussing with my mother a scripture I had read and was unsure of my interpretation. Her wise response was to test it against the character of God because that never changes. So my personal challenge is to really know the character of God so that I may test my understanding against it. As we begin to truly study and absorb who He is, we will more easily filter out that which is not from His Word. And by this point you will have noticed, maybe without realizing when it happened, the doubt which paralyzed you no longer exists.

Be encouraged in your walk of faith.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 says: Test all things, hold fast that which is good.
It’s important that we are very discerning when it comes to what we hear taught by others from the Word of God.
You’re right. The more we know of Him, the less we will doubt. He is the one constant in a changing world.
